Building A New Shelter

Each of the three “No2Violence” shelters house 12 women and 30 children, as the goal of the organization is to save their lives and enable them to live comfortably and dignifiedly.

” For 15 years I could not sleep through the night without fearing him and what might happen to me … I cannot believe I slept all night …” – A woman on her first morning in the shelter/

“I want to stay here in the shelter forever, here is it safe…” – A 9-year-old girl who was staying with her mother in a shelter.

“This is the first time in my life I saw a movie in the theatre …” – A 10-year-old girl who was staying with her mother in a shelter.

“No2Violence” was established in 1977 in Herzliya, in order to save women and children suffering from domestic violence, enabling them to leave and start a new life by providing them with shelter, professional help, vocational training, legal aid and by raising awareness about domestic violence.

In Israel there are a total of 14 shelters for abused women and their children, two of which are in the ultra-Orthodox sector, two in the Arab sector and 8 shelters for the entire population. “No2Violence” operates 3 shelters across the country.

The Ministry of Social Affairs supports “No2Violence” and finances about 60% of the cost of a woman and her children in a shelter, but does not participate in the construction and equipping expenses. “No2Violence” shelters are currently in old buildings that do not allow for the comfortable life we strive to provide for domestic violence victims.

To improve the living conditions of women and children fleeing violence, “No2Violence” is working on the construction of new and modern shelters to enable residents comfortable and dignified living during their stay. Life in the shelters is about sharing and while togetherness is very important socially and for morale, the privacy for each family is important on their way to a new life free of violence.

Each of the three “No2Violence” shelters house 12 women and 30 children, as the goal of the organization is to save their lives and enable them to live comfortably and dignifiedly. Therefore, new shelters are being planned and built with a high level of finish so each family will have a private living room, and the shelter will have dedicated treatment rooms, a recreation room for children, a kindergarten, a spacious and fully equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, and a playground, and pampering activities, all in a protected environment.

These shelters are built for the welfare of the women and children and are a warm place with all the necessary infrastructure and treatments for women to leave the cycle of violence.

Currently, “No2Violence” is finishing building a new and modern shelter at a cost of approximately NIS9,000,000₪. The area of the new shelter will be about 900mon a single dunam lot.

The municipality provided “No2Violence” the land for building the new shelter, as well as  NIS1.5 million to help with building costs.

Fortunately, “No2Violence” has also secured NIS7,000,000 in donations from private foundations and donors in the US and Canada to assist in building the new shelter, but we need additional assistance of NIS2,000,000  to continue the building and grant adequate and safe place for women and children.
